Flash Animation

Watch these flash animations and say which one is your favorite animation and why?

Lesson 1 - Bouncing ball

Using the teacher notes, try to create a bouncing ball using a combination of frame by frame and motion tweens.

To create a realistic effect, use ease in and out and don't forget to change the shape as the ball bounces using the free transform tool.

Your animation should only last a few seconds if you set your frames to 12fps.

Think about how gravity works and how you can time the drop to look as realistic as possible.

When you are happy with your animation export it as a .swf file.

Lesson 2 - Walking Sequence

Picture

Using the 5 stages to walk, create your own walk sequence.  After you have created the 5 stages all you need to do is either loop the 5 frames or copy and paste as required.

Use the onion Skin to see the previous frame and take care to keep the drawings in line with each other.

When you have completed this, try adding a second layer to your animation. Using the motion tween, slowly move the background from right to left. You may have to play with the speed to make it fit with the walk speed.

If needed, you can double the size of the background to keep the sequence moving for longer/slower.

Remember - more frames will slow down the action and less with speed it up (FPS - Frames Per Second

Lesson 3 - Walking Sequence with bitmap graphic

Now try using a sequence from the internet.  Search for either walking stills or computer game sprites.

Using this website http://www.online-image-editor.com/ Crop the image and set the background as transparent before importing into your library.

Now just use the same tecnique as you did in the previous lesson, create your animation.

(You may need to use the eraser tool to clean up your image.  Also, change the background to a contrasting color to help see any areas to clean up.

Lesson 4 - Shape tween to create a sunrise and sunset.

Picture

Using your new found knowledge about shape tweens, try to create a sunrise and sunset.

ALternating your first frame from black to light blue or visa-versa.

Use images from the internet or draw your own.

Can you you add any other layers to create clouds or airplanes?

Lesson 5 - Masking

Now try using the masking technique to create a mask for a flat earth image so that it looks round and rotates.  For extra effect, try increasing the size of the image slowly as you move through the mask so it looks like you are zooming in on the earth.

Project Time - Music video

You are going to create a music video as part of your final project.  Don't forget to include as many of the new skills you have learned in class. Pick any song that you would like to animate and do your best.

Here are a list of useful websites to help you create your masterpiece.
